I've been taking classes at Michigan Actors' Studio for ~2 years, and every class has been an amazing experience. As things have been forced online during the pandemic, I've taken online Voice Over classes (I and II) with Wayne David Parker (Daba) and it's been a great experience. Daba's a great teacher and the online format has worked well for VO classes. I've learned to use my voice much better and have had a lot of fun. I've also started submitting for paid VO work.
Scene study classes with Kate Peckham Korte are phenomenal. Kate does such a good job creating a fun, safe space and getting the best out of everyone in class. I can't wait for Advanced Scene Study to start back up!
Over the past two years my mom has pushed and pushed for me to take a voice over class due to my knack of character voices. I've done radio dramas before, but never truly had proper training. Since Covid, getting laid off, and all other outlets stripped, I bit the bullet and signed up for VO1.
It was great having it be in the comfort of my own home as the class was virtual, and I could record on my own time. This class was interesting, starting off with simple comercials, but a challenge for me as I'm used to using character voices, and not just my regular tones. The class was super supportive, and Daba the instructor was helpful with tips on what to do better, and raves about what we did great. I had such a great time that I signed up for VO2, which was what I was looking forward to--Audibooks.
VO2 was even better, with longer and more challening scripts, I felt that I was able to truly grow as a voice over actor, but sad that they didnt have VO3. Until they shared the news!
By popular demand, VO3 is now available, where we're going to be working on character voices, accents and dialects, and more audiobook scripts (I've been leaping for joy since I got the notification as this is what I was hoping to really learn and expand on since I've started).
If you've thought about exploring a new aspect of yourself, or learning a new skill, or even wanting to try something fun and different--Michigan Actors Studio is the place to go. Daba is the best teacher with professional experience, and is phenominal regarding support, advice, and takes time out of his day to listen to anything you'll send him. The Voice Over classes are a place where you can be yourself, for yourself, and with other people that are like yourself. Try it! You won't regret it.
I loved taking acting class there because the instructor was very nice and professional. Also, the class size wasn't very big so everyone got ample attention.
The Acting I Virtual Class was very enjoyable, and I really learned a lot about acting. I'm looking forward to taking more courses with Michigan Actors Studio in the near future !!!
I am beyond thrilled to share my incredible experience at the Michigan Actors Studio, where I recently completed the Voiceover 1 class and participated in a fantastic workshop about talent agents. This establishment has truly exceeded all my expectations!
First and foremost, the instructors and staff at the Michigan Actors Studio are nothing short of amazing. Their passion, dedication, and wealth of knowledge in their respective fields create a nurturing and supportive environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive. The team is genuinely invested in every individual's success, making sure each one of us feels valued, heard, and encouraged to reach our full potential.
The curriculum at Michigan Actors Studio covers a comprehensive range of topics and skills, from acting and voiceover to writing and improv. Additionally, they also delve into the business aspects of the arts, ensuring that students are well-equipped to navigate the industry with confidence. Their holistic approach is truly invaluable, as it not only nurtures artistic talent but also fosters a deeper understanding of the industry.
What I appreciate most about this incredible institution is the safe and welcoming atmosphere they've created. Students from all walks of life, with varying levels of experience, can come together to learn, collaborate, and grow in a judgment-free space. This kind of environment is crucial in helping students push their boundaries and discover their true potential.
I cannot recommend Michigan Actors Studio highly enough! If you're considering pursuing a career in the performing arts, or simply looking to develop your skills and knowledge, this is the place to be. Don't hesitate – seize this opportunity to learn from the best in the business and embark on an unforgettable journey of self-discovery and artistic growth!
Taking the intro class with Kate was one of the most fundamentally impactful events in my life. In addition to the immensely valuable lessons learned to further my craft, it had deep impact on me as a person. My confidence is much higher, I'm much more comfortable taking risks, and my personal and social development has greatly expanded. I've never felt more safe in a space than in class, and I'm deeply grateful for everything. If you're on the fence about taking a class, this is your sign. DO IT! I guarantee you'll be very glad you did.
Michigan actors studio teachers are amazing. The studio has successfully created a safe environment which is essential for the vulnerability that students need to express to be creative. The teachers are all highly skilled as well. I took acting 1 for kicks. I had no expectations of continuing. I’ve since worked my way up to scene study and taken it several times. I’ve also acted in a lead role in a play. For me - scene study is an exploration of self and acting. The bigger the risks - the bigger the growth. I’m grateful for the safe space that allows me to do this
I just finished my first round of Intro to Improv and I had the GREATEST experience! Andi is a phenomenal instructor. You can tell she truly appreciates the craft of acting and improv. She has such a welcoming and fun personality, which made the learning experience so engaging! The studio is great. It’s easy to get to, it has its own little parking lot (which is a big deal in Royal Oak lol). I wanted to take improv because I liked the idea of learning how to *not* overthink and adapt to circumstances on the fly. Even just the foundational principles of improv are life changing. I think EVERYONE should try it atleast once in their life. You may be surprised what you learn about yourself! 10/10 recommend
Lisa is a dynamic instructor. Her experience in the field of Voice Over allows her to immediately evaluate an individual and instruct them to the best of their own ability regardless of that persons experience level. She not only teaches but also works in Voice Over. Therefore, she knows what she is talking about.
What I loved the most about this class is the way it taught me something that I've always had an issue with Cold reading. I'm dyslexic and visually impaired and It created a safe environment and gave me time to practice. This class also reinforced some notions I had about myself and helped me see what some of my strengths are and where I'd like to explore and grow. I creatively connected with some cool individuals.
Honestly if you're looking for a way to make some new friends or at least some people to be social with, an acting class is a great way to do it. This is a safe space to take some risks and step out of your comfort zone a bit. Be a little bit more open to others. There's actually quite a lot I could say about this class, but what I think matters most is value. There is definitely value here. Edit: I've taken an additional class. The Voice Over class with Lisa. Lisa is a great instructor, the class was fun and I learned some fundementals to start my career as a voice over artist. Whether you're looking for something new to try or the actor inside of you is dying to come out, MAS is a great place for you to explore and play.
I recently took Michigan Actor's Studio's class: Acting for Film. Having no acting training, it was all very new to me. I recommend this class to anyone looking to further their acting skills and get more comfortable in front of the camera. The teacher Emilio was great. Every week he brought a ton of energy and his experience to the group. It was a lot of fun and I met some great people along the way. I highly recommend!
My experience was brilliant! Positive energy from my classmates and of course our teacher Kate! She makes it so welcoming where you are comfortable and confident because she never judges you or makes you feel less about yourself. She is there to help and guide you. I truly recommend this class if you want to have fun, meet people and try your hand at acting!!! Love all around and I am looking forward to the mastery class! 👍🏽👍🏽
